In 2010, while still in high school, best friends Joanna Harkins and Kellie Hogan started dreaming up plans of one day starting their very own magazine. The following summer, after finishing their first years at university, they made the #CarpeYOLO decision to create inconnu. The word “inconnu”—French for unknown— represents everything the magazine stands for. inconnu is about finding all that is creative, interesting, and hilarious and bringing it into the spotlight. The two girls, along with their BFF Taylor Brogan, raised some money on Kickstarter and created the Debut Issue. Since then, they have branched out into the blogosphere and hired a staff of talented young writers, artists, photographers, and video makers.

inconnu has been consistently in flux since we first launched in 2011. We’ve been a blog, an art zine, a print magazine, a digital mag, a thirteen-year-old Jewish girl. We’ve made music videos, dispensed advice, eaten countless bowls of cereal, gotten drunk with our friends, and had the chance to work with some of the most talented artists and writers on this planet. We haven’t ever really stayed in one place. Part of the reason for that has been our own perfectionism and desire to be more and do better. After a very slow 2014/2015 season, we decided to reboot, relaunch… renew. In September of 2015 we brought on an entirely new staff, of fresh, young voices, with the new Editor in Chief, Ellie Boroughs. We must keep moving.
